Oh Babies

The 33 week visit:

We were able to see fun video of both babies squirming around in their large tank today at Doc's. Baby Girl is 4 lbs 5 oz and Baby Boy is 4 lbs 13 oz. This, so I'm told, is great. They're staying within 10-20% of each other's weight and that is a good sign.

I am, however, showing some signs that they're ready to break out. Not immediately (oh, dear goodness I hope not!), but soon. Baby Girl's head is VERY low and Baby Boy's head is nudging down there as well.

We're still crossing our fingers for another 3-4 weeks. In the meantime, Doc said for me to tone it down considerably. Not forced bed rest, but close enough. I shall obey...until Toddler A and Toddler B need me...which is every other second!

I will now start the precautionary meds to keep contractions from happening (like a muscle relaxer) because contractions at this point would signal my body to start labor...too soon. And, unlike most pregnancies, we actually don't want labor. That would mean an emergency c-section and I'd prefer to leave the word "emergency" out of our already crazy circumstances.

Appointments every week now.

At some point we'll need to name these babies. Or do we already have the names? Well I'd say it looks like we do!

32 Weeks-ish

Almost rounding the corner to 32 weeks. No doc's appointment this week since he's out of the country...YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thankfully, it's now and not in another 2 weeks or so. I guess the man does deserve a vacation. ;)
As one can tell, I have officially grown out of the white tank that has taken me through the monthly pics - now I'm supplementing with the Bella Band (aka my best friend in the world) which has about another day and a half before I outgrow it too.

One thing is for sure. We're not getting any smaller, folks. Measuring full-term, 40 weeks. Stay in, babies, stay in!

Thank heaven for little boys...

...for little boys get bigger every day.

Love my little boy. And one of the things I have been most excited about in having a little boy is the chance to give him a buzz cut. Why is that so appealing to me? Because every little boy at some point should get that hair shorn and show their adorable faces in all their glory!

You would think I would be more excited to put bows and barrettes in my little girl's hair, and I do love that. But something about shaving the boy's head was a little rite of passage.

He loves it. I love it. And after the shock wore off, his daddy loves it too.

My grown up little boy...getting bigger every day.

30 Weeks and Incubating...still

We've made it to the big 3-0 week and are out of scalding water. Now we just need to get to 34 weeks to be out of hot water and then 36 weeks to be out of warm water.

But I can't think in those terms. I can only think days. Right now, I'm thinking "Press on to week 33 because Doc is going out of town for week 32." Short goals. That's all I can handle because when I think in terms of 4 or 6 more weeks, I feel dizzy and contemplate how to perform my own c-section.

Not good.

I'm still measuring 8 weeks ahead and am done bending over, sitting on the floor, standing for more than 2 minutes, sleeping at night, eating without massive reflux pain, and other normal activities. I can, however, sit on the couch.

Talent, friends. Pure talent.

The Girl is getting a little anxious about the impending delivery. She asks lots of hospital questions and daily tells me she doesn't ever want me to leave her. I don't think she remembers much about Buster Boy's delivery, but she vividly remembers her own hospital stay when she was wrecked with dehydration from a virus. And Sweetness doesn't want me to be as miserable as she was: needles, lots of strangers in and out, away from at least one parent for a few days, etc.

I've tried to reassure her of how fun it will be to have the 2 babies there and we'll all get to visit. And I conveniently leave out the part of how I'll be staying there and she won't, but she's got it all figured out. She's smart like that.

So for now we keep it light. She's made me tissue paper flower arrangements to take with us to the hospital and she wanted Panda Bear washed so he would be ready to accompany too. And, of course, she's wanting to pack her own bag to go along with mine. I just tell her we have to leave hers empty in case she wants to take a trip somewhere before the babies come.

So far so good.

And she's not even 4 yet

The question has finally been asked.

Dinner table. Homemade pizza on tap. I mention to Carter something about spring break being near Easter. That discussion ends. The Girl looks over to me like she'd been thinking a while about what she was going to say.

"So Mommy...is the Easter Bunny real?"

Oh no she didn't.

I look at her, act like I heard nothing and continue eating. So she asks again.

"Oh, did Mommy talking about Easter make you think about the Easter bunny?"

"No."

"Did you talk to one of your friends tonight about the Easter bunny?"

"No. I just wanted to know if he's real or if it's someone dressed up and acting like an Easter bunny."

I look at Carter for help. He's useless as he is turned around backwards laughing and wondering what my response will be. So I glance at the girl, smile and say nothing.

"Is he real?"

"Well..." I couldn't lie. I don't know what it was about that little innocent face point blank asking me a question, but I could not bring myself to lie.

"Is it someone just dressed up?" she asks again.

"Yep. How's your pizza?"

"Good."

End of conversation.
