Move over, Beckham!...or Pele....or whoever you people are...

I'm in unfamiliar territory.

Put me on a softball field, or even a football field, or up on a stage in front of hundreds of people and I'll feel pretty comfortable (as long as my stage time doesn't include singing of any sort). But place me on a soccer field....ugh...I'm a lost cause.

I did play one year of soccer back in the day. And that was only because the soccer coach was really cute. Somehow I made the team as a 16/17 year old playing for THE FIRST TIME EVER! (goes to show the level of skill on that team!)

I was terrible. I never really enjoyed the sport and my parents wanted to gauge their eyeballs out when watching me play because they didn't understand a lick of it.

Short-lived career to say the least. Especially when compared to my 25 year softball career.

I always vowed to have my mini-me daughters take that softball field like a champ. Own it. Run it. Become it.

Until the husb began his shananigan ranting about "Maybe she should play soccer" or "Soccer is one sport I actually understand" or "I could totally play soccer with my kids" blah blah blah.

Somehow Big Sis overheard these shananigan rantings and hopped on the bandwagon. (It's all a conspiracy against softball. I just know it.)

So here we are. Launching into a soccer career at age 4. (You do remember the ballet debacle last year? Was I hoping for a repeat? Well, no. But I sure as heck wasn't purchasing cleats [see pictures] until we got 3 or 4 practices in and I knew she was sticking with it!)

I'm not gonna know any cool soccer cheers (like I would have on the softball field) and I'm not gonna purchase the coolest soccer gear (as she would have had STATE-O-THE-ART softball attire/gear) and I'll never be her coach (coulda sent her Little League team to the WORLD SERIES had I coached the real sport).

But you can be doggone sure when she scores her first goal, I'm gonna scream at the top of my lungs, "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!" just like they do on the beloved Spanish channel, Univision.

And then I might jump up and down and hit someone. Because that's what crazed soccer fans do, and I'm an all or nothing kind of gal.

It is at that time that I will officially become a soccer mom.

The blond girl in blue in the last picture ... is she 12??? Tell me she's not 4 or 5!

I can't wait to watch her take the field! And, you have years to go with her, she still may well turn into a softball phenom like her mom in time (if not, you do have R!).

Tell LK that her Auntie Jana will happily teach her mom some soccer stuff so Mama won't embarrass her.

Trust me, you'll grow to LOVE it! Next thing you know you'll be buying tickets to World Cup 2010. Plus, she's ADORABLE in those HUGE shinguards.

Love to the Akins Clan...

I can't wait until you and LK sit down and have the "I played soccer because Coach Glennie was cute" talk...
